Taranaki [that's on the west coast of New Zealand] has just finished yet another wonderful arts festival with a magnificent display of community creativity. Jill White of the Taranaki Arts Community Trust http://www.tact.org.nz/ coordinated the lantern parade involving lots of people making lanterns and then parading them through New Plymouth's Pukekura Park.
The weather was great, the atmosphere was superb and the sight of 2000 plus people parading with lanterns accompanied by drummers and other music was a real show of community creativity. 
The departing creative director of the Taranaki International Festival of the Arts , Roger King, had this to say: "This is a fantastic finale for me . . . It's the light of our community and our hearts as well."
A sentiment shared by many who took part.
